The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) is a living and flying memorial to all those in the Royal Air Force who fought and died in all conflicts, especially World War II.

Specialist area
World War II aircraft and crew.

Ideal age range for visits
BBMF Visitor Centre attracts visitors of all ages and interest levels, as well as aviation enthusiasts and the families of people who fought in the Second World War.

Children are welcome on the educational visits. The BBMF Visitor Centre have developed an excellent visit for 9 to 11 year olds called 'My brother flies Lancasters'. On this site there are additional activities based on flight from a science and a humanities point of view for Key Stages 1 to 3 to prepare for or follow up a visit.

What is unique about this venue?
In the Hangar children can get up close to a Lancaster, a Spitfire, a Hurricane and other Second World War aircraft. They can view photographs, artefacts and memorabilia from the Second World War and get a great insight to what life was like in wartime on an RAF base, like the many in Lincolnshire.

The education visit is built around the very human stories at the base. Children take on the roles of air and ground crew and look at stories from the Second World War. The premise of the visit is that an older brother of the children is in the RAF and flies Lancasters during the war.
